Uganda has a variety of landscapes and over 1000 bird species. This trip brings you to the most important birding sites in Uganda. Expect to see over 400 bird species and also the large animals of the savanna like lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos, leopards, and up to 16 primate species, including gorillas and chimps.

Day 1: Arrival / Entebbe

Accommodation: The Boma

When you arrive at Entebbe International Airport (EBB), your guide will be there waiting for you, will pick you up and you will proceed to your accommodation. Today your accommodation will be at the Boma Entebbe.

Day 2: Entebbe – Mabamba – Entebbe

You will have an early breakfast and a transfer to Mabamba swamp, a large and accessible wetland on the shores of Lake Victoria. This is one of the best places to see the shoebill stork. In the afternoon, you will visit the botanical gardens in Entebbe to see many beautiful bird species. Today your accommodation will be at the Boma.

Day 3 – Entebbe – Mabira Forest – Jinja – Kampala

Today you will be transferred to Mabira Forest, 65 kilometers east of Kampala. You will spend the rest of the day birding in the Mabira forest, pausing for lunch at Jinja, and visiting the source of the Nile. Afterwards, you will be transferred to Kampala.

Day 4: Kampala – Murchison Falls National Park

Today you will arrive to Murchison Falls National Park. A birding session in Kaniyo Pabidi (Budongo Forest) is organized in the afternoon. Afterwards, you proceed to Murchison falls and spend the night on the shores of the Nile. Murchison Falls is one of the most beautiful national parks of Uganda. One of the main attractions is the Nile, with the spectacular Murchison Falls, where the whole Nile is forced through a narrow gorge and falls 60 meters. Expect to see elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, and maybe leopards.

Day 5 – Murchison Falls National Park

You will go on an early game drive in the morning to see the large animals of Africa and also for birding. In the afternoon, you will make a boat trip on the Victoria Nile up to the bottom of the falls. The boat is an ideal platform to make photos of the birds

Days 6: Murchison Falls National Park

Today you have on the schedule an early morning adventure on the Nile on a private boat trip to the delta. Game drive in the afternoon or visit the top of the falls are available as well. This willbe your last night at Pakuba Safari Lodge.

Days 7: Murchison Falls National Park

After an early transfer to Budongo forest, you will go birding through the jungle. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Hoima town were you will spend the night. Budongo Forest is also home of many butterflies and chimpanzees.

Day 8, 9, and 10 – Kibale Forest National Park

Accommodation: Chimps Nest Camp

After breakfast, you will go drive to Kibale Forest. You can take a walk through the forest around the lodge in the afternoon. Optionally, it is also possible to go on a night walk through the forest to see the animals of the night, like bush babies. Kibale Forest is a spectacular jungle, with 13 primate species including chimps, baboons, black and white colobus, red colobus, grey cheeked mangabey, and L’Hoest monkey.

On the ninth day, you will go on a chimpanzee tracking trip in the morning or in the afternoon, and you will also do birding in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. It is also possible to visit the local people or the crater lakes, as an optional activity. During your stay in Kibale Forest National Park, you will be accommodated at Chimps`Nest.

Day 11 – Kibale Forest – Semuliki National Park

You will be transferred to Semuliki National Park, where you will visit the Sempaya Hot Springs and make a walk through the jungle for birding. Semuliki is a unique place and the only lowland jungle in East Africa, part of the Congo ecosystem.

Day 12 – Semuliki National Park – Semuliki Wildlife Reserve – Fort Portal

Today you will be transferred to Semuliki wildlife reserve for a boat trip on Lake Albert, and you will go to Fort Portal afterwards. Semuliki is an interesting area, partly forested and partly savanna. The shores of Lake Albert are well known and populated with shoebill stork in abundance.

Day 13 – Fort Portal – Queen Elizabeth National Park

Transfer to the Queen Elizabeth National Park. On your way, you will pass the equator where you will make a stop. Game drive for birding or optional guided walk on the Mweya Peninsula in the afternoon are also available Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the best places in Uganda to see lions. Expect to see elephants, lions, many hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, and maybe leopards.

Day 14 – Queen Elizabeth National Park

After game drive in the morning, you will go on a boat trip on the Kazinga channel in the afternoon. The boat is an ideal platform to make photos of the birds. The Kazinga channel is one of the highlights of Uganda and has the highest concentration of hippos in the world.

Day 15 – Queen Elizabeth National Park – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

After the last birding session through the park, leading to Maramagambo forest, you will be transferred to Buhoma, in the afternoon. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is a unique jungle, with many monkey species, and one of the two places in the world where you can find mountain gorillas! You will be accommodated at Buhoma Lodge.

Day 16, 17, and 18 – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Accommodation: Gorilla Mist Camp

In Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park you will do some birdwatching and you will also dedicate one day to a gorilla trekking trip, as an optional activity, if you want to. You will also go on a short trip to Ruhija. Birding in this unique area with a lot of Albertine endemics is extremely interesting.

Day 19 and 20 – Bwindi Impenetrable – Lake Bunyonyi

Accommodation: Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort

Birding in Mubwindi swamp and after transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, the deepest and most beautiful lake of Uganda. You will sleep on one of the beautiful islands. Possible activities here are nature walks, go for a birding walk, go for canoeing, take a swim, or visit the local community. All the above activities are optional. During the second day in lake Bunyonyi, you can do birding on the island and along the lake shores. Optional boat trip on the lake is also available.

Day 21 – Lake Bunyonyi – Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, you will be driven to Lake Mburo National Park where you will have a boat trip for birding on the lake in the afternoon. It is possible to do a night game drive with high chances of seeing leopards and nocturnal birds, as an optional activity. Lake Mburo is one of the two national parks with zebras and the only national park with impalas in Uganda. There are no elephants and lions, so walking safaris are possible here.

Day 22 – Lake Mburo National Park – Entebbe

Early in the morning you will go on a last game drive or game walk in Lake Mburo National Park. After that, you will be transferred to the Entebbe International Airport (EBB) for your departure.
